Hello once again and thanks for reading and here is my third part of my Las Vegas blog.

So you make your way to the elevators to go to your given floor. Have you noticed that when you step into the elevator and you want it all to yourself? No? Must be me then….. I like riding in an elevator solo…. anyway…… lets carry on……

I get out of the lift on the 4th floor, and make my way to room 417. Now when you stay at the Paris Hotel in Las Vegas, all the lifts are at one end and when you come out of the lifts you walk down the corridor and come to what I can only describe as a circular shape area where there are different corridors all veering off to different rooms, so 400 – 420 is one way, then 420 – 440 another and so on and also they have a smoking corridor with rooms and as I am a non-smoker I was hoping my room was not down that corridor and phew, thankfully not!

Anyway I start down my given corridor looking left and right for my room and I bypass the ice machine and vending machine room then pass the “fire doors” then pass a room marked “utilities housekeeping” or something like that only to note my room is smack bang opposite! Oh well am sure it will be quiet.

Now, being absolutely jet lagged I didn’t think about what this could mean so opened my room door with my pass key and stepped in. It was big! There were two queen size beds, a bathroom with a tiny bath and overhead shower. The reason for noting the bath is that if you are like me and love a bath you may need to know that some rooms in the Paris Hotel have small baths which are not deep enough to wallow in a lovely soapy bubble bath so you have been warned. As I said I can only vouch for some of the rooms at the Paris Hotel.

The TV was built into the wardrobe area and I had read before I came to Las Vegas that the Paris Hotel was undergoing a two-tier refurbishment program and the room I had been given for my stay was still the old style and had not been refurbished yet but hey still nice though!

I put my bag down on one of the beds and called down to the Bellboy/Concierge and gave my ticket number so that they could bring up my bags. 10 minutes later, a knock at the door and upon pressing $2 into the Bellboy’s hand I took charge of my luggage.

I then though I would check out the view but noticed that I was towards the side of the hotel so couldn’t see the strip properly. Ok it didn’t matter, I wouldn’t be in the room long enough to enjoy the view anyway!

I then felt quite thirsty and thought I would check out the refrigerator however as I went to open the door I noticed a sign that said something along the lines of “upon opening this all, all drinks and beverages are operated by a sensor and anything removed will automatically be charged to your room etc”.

Hmm, I thought, now where is the price list for these items and oh my god, how expensive is a bottle of cola, $6.50! I am better to buy lots from Wal Mart etc so decided against “raiding” the fridge, and grabbed my handbag, purse, room key and passport and decided to wander out onto the strip and have a look.

It was about 8pm Las Vegas time but to me it was about 4am in the UK and I had been awake for nearly 24 hours however my head was buzzing even though I was tired and I was excited about being in fabulous Las Vegas and was hungry so I wanted to grab something to eat and have a quick look of the strip before I succumbed to the “Sandman”.

So I made my way to the elevator, rode down to the ground floor and slowly made my way through the casino trying to keep my eyes averted and hands by my side, out through the entrance onto the Strip.

Wow!! The Las Vegas Boulevard (the Strip) at night is truly awesome. What a sight! All flashing neon lights up and down whichever way you looked. Over the sidewalk on the other side was the Bellagio Hotel and the famous fountains that happened every 30 mins I believe. I stood there transfixed, staring at the wonderful splendour of the fountains but my tummy was rumbling getting the better of me and I knew I had to eat but which way to go?

Left, I thought, up towards the Planet Hollywood Hotel (which I did not know was called this at the time); past the Miracle Mile Shops entrance; past the Harley Davison cafe, with its gigantic Harley Davison motorbike jutting out from the top looking as though it was going to run you down; past the market type area where I later bought a “Vegas Baby” tiara, and then just before a supermarket/pharmacy I spied a MacDonalds!

Oh yes, I came all the way from the UK for a MacDonalds but I would eat anything now as was getting more tired and hungry so dived in, ordered a cheeseburger, fries and coke, wolfed it down, then made my way back to the Paris Hotel, past the men giving out cards with sex clubs and phone numbers, back to my room where I promptly slept till about 5am dreaming of what the day would bring!

Hi everyone and welcome to the second part of my Las Vegas blog!

So, continuing from part 1, the Bellboy comes up to you and offers to check your bags in and of course as you have a lot of luggage (well I did!) you agree and you are given a piece of paper that has a number on and he explains that when you have checked in and you know which room you will be in just pick up the receiver in your room and dial no 4 (obviously I cant remember what number I had to press as it differs from hotel to hotel so this is just a guess) and give the ticket no and room number to whoever answers the call and a Bellboy will come up with your bags etc. Just remember don’t forget to tip an appropriate amount dependant on your budget and whether you have some dollars ready ($2 – $5).

Ok, the Bellboy has taken your bags now the next thing is to check in. Now when you walk through the entrance of the Paris Hotel you think OH….MY….GOD…. it’s massive and you haven’t found the check in desk yet as when you arrive through the doors you are bombarded with the start of the casino and are met with slot machine after slot machine!! It’s quite an overpowering image especially if you have never visited a casino or Las Vegas before which I never had and honestly the first thing you think of is “should I play now……..” but, no, you need to tear yourself away as you need to check in and get a room first!

Honestly, the three or four times I have been to Las Vegas before I settled here I stayed at the Paris Hotel every time as it was central on the Strip and opposite the Bellagio and even now if I visit the hotel I am still knocked out by the enormity of the casino entrance with the machines, the low lighting and the ching, whoosh, squeal and whistles of everything! Anyway, I digress…..

Right, now time to bag a room!

First of all you have to think “do I want a non smoking/smoking room in the ground floor, top floor, near the elevator, near the ice machine where it can be noisy, at the back of the hotel or overlooking the strip, opposite the fire door etc”….. your mind starts to get overwhelmed with the choice as you stand in the queue waiting your turn to approach the check in clerk who obviously has been handing out pass keys and tapping in stuff on the keyboard for guests all day so is feeling a bit stressed……
I am now going to tell you my story of when I first arrived in Las Vegas at the Paris Hotel so I can give you a taster of what can happen on check in…..

My first visit to Las Vegas was about 4 days before christmas and I was stood in the queue after checking my bags with the Bellboy so I shuffled wearily to the check in clerk as I had by now been on the plane for over 10 hours and feeling the jet lag and announced my name to the receptionist and passed over my reservation slip and then waited for her to check me in. I got the welcome to the Paris Hotel Las Vegas spiel, was it my first visit etc and she asked for my passport and that my room was on the 4th floor.

Now I had read and heard about the trick of putting $20 in your passport before handing it over as a bribe so that you would get a free upgrade however I was so tired that my brain wasn’t functioning so I forgot about this neat trick. Anyway, as she gave me my room key I said off-handedly was it possible for an upgraded room. The receptionist looked at me and then said she would have to ask the Manager so she went away for about 15 minutes or longer, I couldn’t tell as feeling really tired at this point. The receptionist came back and said I could have an upgrade to a higher floor but it should be $60 per night.

Feeling so tired, I looked at the receptionist and asked, “as it was my first visit to Las Vegas and the Paris Hotel was there no way of a free upgrade?” I knew by now what the answer would be so backed down and took the room key etc and made my way to the elevators all the while bypassing the casino and slot machines which were still beckoning to me……..

Hi, my name is Daisy Summer and welcome to my blog on Las Vegas!

Why Las Vegas? Well I originally came from the United Kingdom and about 4 years ago I came over with a few girlfriends for a week in Las Vegas and I loved it so much that when I got back to the UK I said to my friends that I was going back to Las Vegas to stay!

I think the thing I love about Las Vegas is its 24 hour lifestyle where nothing stays the same, the buzz, glitz and glamour, laid back people, the diversity, vitality and brashness of a city that never sleeps!

So I decided to create a blog that will introduce newbies, aficionados, and die hard fans to my take on all things Las Vegas that I love and things that I am sure you will want, like where to find the best hotels, restaurants, shopping, shows, things to do, attractions, travel, getting married, casinos, nightclubs and lots more. Hopefully, like me, you will love visiting Las Vegas which I call the Adults Playground!

So where to start, well you need to get to Las Vegas first and you will arrive at McCarran International Airport.

McCarran International Airport has two terminals – Terminal 1 is the larger of the two and is mainly of US citizens and Terminal 2 is for international visitors i.e., from the UK etc. There are plans to build a Terminal 3 which will have 14 gates of which 6 will be for international visitors.

After you have landed as you will know you have to collect your luggage from the whirling carousel. However if you are like me you over pack and can’t lift your luggage from the carousel so note to self – don’t over pack!

Well now its time to leave the airport and make your way to your chosen hotel. There are many options to do this and you have the pick of a cab, rental car or bus. The airport is served by RTC Transit, the public bus service of Las Vegas and stops at Terminal 1.

My preferred option is to hop in a cab. However make sure you say to the taxi driver to not take the Tunnel as if they take this route eve thought it is faster it will cost more – I have no reason why this would be but am sure if anyone knows then please leave a comment.

Ok, so you have arrived at your hotel, paid the taxi driver and now are standing at the entrance and if you have opted for one of the hotels on “The Strip” then I think the first thing you are going to say is WOW!!

All the Best

Daisy Summer
